A special thanks to Jeff Jensen and the City of Treasure Island
2019 Bluescoast Records
Once upon a time, our friend and fan Jeff Jensen was in charge of cultural events for the City of Treasure Island, and he used to hire local bands to play festivals on the beach. During this golden age, I think he was putting on three of these every year. We played for several of these shows - right on the beach! Sarasota Slim ran sound, and on this occasion he made a multitrack recording using his PreSonus board. We took it to George to mix, and a mere 8 years later, here it is for your listening pleasure.
This was a very special concert, because our good friends TC Carr and Lori Cherry joined us on stage, and each sang a tune. Also Jeff Avrin, who played bass with us on and off for many years, sang a classic Rock Bottom number. Sadly, Jeff left us in 2016. This is the only recording I have of him singing with us.
I am very conscious of how lucky I am to be living this life, playing with great musicians and great friends, on the beach!
My baby don't bake no cornbread
My baby don't cook no beans
My baby don't fry no chicken
She don't cook a doggone thing
My baby drive me crazy
When she drop them tight blue jeans
My baby don't cook no crawdads
My baby don't make no roux
My baby don't cook no gumbo
Like them N'awlins women do
But she keeps my pot a boilin
We got better things to do
Got no time to waste in the kitchen
When her man has got a powerful appetite
She don't rattle no pots and pans, can't even open up a can
But she knows just how to treat her daddy right
My baby don't make my breakfast
My baby don't bring me tea
My baby don't cook nothing
But that's alright with me
cause she's got the kind of vittles that I need
She got them Southern vittles that I need.
